Spatial and temporal rainfall variability in the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica

چکیده

Rainfall in the Moist Tropical Caribbean Region (MTCR) Costa Rica occurs practically throughout year, with quarters June–August (JJA) and December–February (DJF) concentrating over 70% of annual rainfall. Contrarily, March–April September–October, it rains below 100 mm per month. This seasonal rainfall behavior makes region ideal for producing bananas (Musa spp.) pineapple (Ananas comosus) export (10% 8% total exports 2021, respectively). A national-scale study determined that agriculture MTCR is one most vulnerable sectors to climate changes. However, this has been poorly studied so far. research analyzed spatial temporal variability annual, monthly, (DJF, JJA, SO) how they change period based on quality-checked series daily from 28 weather stations two periods: 1985–2009 1997–2019. The results show regimes are variable space peaks occurring close mountain range minimum values coast. Trends were statistically significant a predominance positive trends DJF negative SO. No (positive or negative) observed JJA uneven regional distribution presents trend region. paper contributes filling knowledge gap seasonality, variability, where banana commercial plantations fundamental country’s economy thus providing information decision-making agri-food sector reduce impacts changing regimes.

Population ecology and fishery of Cittarium pica (Gastropoda: Trochidae) on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

The West Indian Topshell Cittarium pica is artisanally collected on rocky shores along the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica. There are neither data on the state of its exploitation nor exist any regulation of the fishery From October 2000 to March 2001, the population dynamics of this species were studied at an unexploited and two exploited sites to determine the present impact of the fishery on t...

Spatial and Temporal Variability of Rainfall over the South-West Coast of Bangladesh

This study examined the spatial and temporal rainfall variability from the 1940s to 2007 in the south west coastal region of Bangladesh. Time series statistical tests were applied to examine the spatial and temporal trends in three time segments (1948–1970, 1971–1990 and 1991–2007) and four seasons (Pre-monsoon; Monsoon; Post-Monsoon and Winter), during the period 1948–2007. Eight weather stati...

Capitellidae (Annelida: Polychaeta) from the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.

Eleven species of Capitellidae (Annelida: Polychaeta) belonging to eight genera are reported from the subtidal and intertidal of the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Three species, Mediomastus ambiseta, M. californiensis and Notomastus hemipodus, are found in highest abundances and are widespread in subtidal and intertidal environments. A taxonomic key to these species is included.

Bleaching and mortality of reef organisms during a warming event in 1995 on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

Coral reefs at the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica were affected during a bleaching event associated with the 1995 warming of the Western Caribbean. During doldrum weather in late August 1995, reef organisms at Parque Nacional Cahuita were 62% and 7.4% bleached and dead respectively, whilst 67.6% bleached and 8.2% died in the Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Gandoca-Manzanillo. However, Cahuita...

Spatial and temporal variability of rainfall erosivity factor for Switzerland

Rainfall erosivity, considering rainfall amount and intensity, is an important parameter for soil erosion risk assessment under future land use and climate change. Despite its importance, rainfall erosivity is usually implemented in models with a low spatial and temporal resolution. The purpose of this study is to assess the temporaland spatial distribution of rainfall erosivity in form of the ...
